Alex Crossan, AKA Mura Masa, is an internet wunderkind who cut his teeth producing music in his bedroom. But, unlike many of the other internet-kid-bedroom-producers you’ve read about, Crossan had a unique upbringing that informed his fresh take on pop music. The producer grew up in Guernsey, a small island situated between France and Great Britain that had no music scene for Crossan to look to for guidance. Instead, he turned to the internet. He described his experience coming of age in a remote area an interview with Rolling Stone,

“Where I grew up, it’s so far-removed and serene and isolated with no underground culture. I had to perceive all music culture through the lens of the internet.”

This narrative is present throughout Mura Masa’s Grammy-nominated, self-titled album, which encompasses a multitude of sounds from various cultures. Mura Masa features an incredible array of artists, from Charli XCX, A$AP Rocky, Damon Albarn and Christine and the Queens -- a true testament to the artist’s range as a dynamic producer. Most recently, Mura Masa released "Complicated," which features frequent collaborator, Nao. NPR called their track together a "a summery dance single."

If you're wondering what his live show is like, Billboard had his to say about a recent Terminal 5 performance,

“Calling Mura Masa a DJ would be to sell him short; he's an impressively skilled one-man band…he swiveled between a keyboard, drum kit, synth pad, electric guitar and chimes that surrounded him in a semi-circle.”
