Kacy Hill at Rock & Roll Hotel

Kacy Hill played the second live show of her singing career Saturday night in DC. As with most shows I’ve attended at Rock & Roll Hotel, the crowd assembled for Kacy Hill and Jack Garratt was a throng of sweaty, beer clad coeds. Kacy Hill, a singer-songwriter hailing from Arizona, and who is signed to Kanye West’s GOOD Music, was an enchanting opening act. Though the vast majority didn’t seem to know who she was, the boozy crowd gravitated towards her as her set went on. Photo courtesy of the artist's Facebook page

From start to finish, Hill had a smile on her face and it was obvious she was genuinely excited to be playing her songs for the crowd in front of her. She played songs from her debut EP, Bloo and performed a cover of 90’s hit, “I Love You Always Forever” by Donna Lewis. Given the age demographic of the crowd, there was a resounding sense of joy and nostalgia among the 90’s kids as she sang the familiar chorus. Throughout her set, Kacy Hill wowed the crowd with her strong vocals that were reminiscent of Florence Welch. Her stage banter was awkward and very charming and was as I would imagine my own to be if I were up on stage playing my second live show ever.

The highlight of the show was her massive rendition of “Foreign Fields” which was captivating as Hill owned the stage, demonstrating that she is in this for the long haul.

My Notes:

  • She is VERY charismatic
  • Why is R&R Hotel a drunk man’s paradise
  • Overheard: “I feel like I’m at church.”

Kacy Hill will be supporting Jack Garratt throughout the remainder of his sold out US tour and will be joining him in the UK and Ireland as well. To view a full list of tour dates click HERE.
