Preview: Kelly Lee Owens at Union Stage
London-based electronic producer, songwriter, and singer Kelly Lee Owens will be just past the halfway point on her U.S. tour in support of her self-titled debut album when she lands in Washington, DC, Sunday, March 25th -- her first trip to the nation's capital to perform. Owens' album came out in 2017 on Smalltown Supersound and was received with much acclaim, landing on a number of year end lists from notable publications like Pitchfork, The Atlantic, and Bandcamp. Most notably, it was named Album of the Year by the influential Piccadilly Records, and #2 album of 2017 by Gorilla vs. Bear. Additionally, she capped off the year with Björk featuring the album’s lead single, “Anxi” ft. Jenny Hval, in her Cover Mix for Mixmag.
In 2018, Owens has picked up where she left off last year, releasing a St. Vincent enlisted remix of the hit song "New York," from 2017's Masseduction.
The sound on Owen's self-titled album amounts to an entrancing collection of songs traversing a variety of darkly-tinged emotions with its looped and airy vocals, and its simmering, drone-led production. The performance promises to be a fantastic display of this blossoming musician's talent and surely won't be the last time we hear her name in the years ahead.
Tickets are still available for this Sunday, March 25th, at Union Stage in Washington DC's Wharf neighborhood, and can be purchased here. And don't forget to check out the dates for the rest of her inaugural U.S. tour below and head over to her Bandcamp to purchase the album.
