Premiere: "You Really Need To Hit Me Up (prod. THERAVADA)" by Sir EU
Although he recently released his acclaimed project Midnight Train to Velvet and has dedicated every Friday in quarantine to dropping a new single, the legendary Sir EU delivers once more, bringing us back to a simpler time in this premiere. “You Need To Hit Me Up,” produced by NY rapper and producer THERAVADA, was recorded in 2017. The video was filmed one year later, directed by WAXBANDO.
The happening pandemic could be a contributing factor, but so much about this premiere feels apocalyptic. The abrupt release after having the song and video tucked for years is reminiscent of one gifting their most prized possessions before being away for a while. The track and video are fairly distorted. The visual follows Sir EU strolling along a grey waterfront, literally finding himself in a jumbo scrabble game. By the end, he’s in the water himself. The closing lyrics can be received as an urgent message:
“I can't believe I ever told you
(OR)
I can't believe I never told you. What the fuck!
You really need to hit me up!”
While it is a few years old, the song and video could not have come at a more fitting time. Watch it below.
